11 Things Grooms Should Do the Week of Their Wedding

On the week of your wedding, it may seem like all the puzzle pieces should be in place and ready to go. However, there will still be a few final details that need to be taken care of. If you are a groom heading into the final countdown to your wedding, make sure you get these things checked off your list before the big celebration!

Get the Tux

Whether you’ve purchased your own or are renting, it is time to pick up your tuxedo or suit for the big day. Make sure you try it on (with your shoes on) to make sure everything is in place and to check if there are any small alterations that need to be taken care of.

Break-in Your Shoes

You’ll be on your feet a lot, so you’ll need to make sure your shoes are broken in and ready to be worn for the entire day. Walk around in them a bit in the days leading up to your wedding, even if just around your home. Be sure the bottoms are properly scuffed, too. You don’t want any unexpected slips!

Iron Your Shirt

It is your big day, and you’ll want to look your best! Be sure to iron out any wrinkles to get your shirt in tip-top shape.

Take Care of Grooming

If you have any final grooming steps to do, now is the time to do it! Head to the barbershop to get a haircut, and take care of any facial hair if you need to.

Practice Your Vows Out Loud

Don’t let the moment you are standing at the altar be the first time you actually say your vows out loud. It might feel a little awkward, but practice reciting your vows when you have some alone time. It will help you feel more confident and comfortable with reciting them.

Prep Your Speech

If you’ll be giving a speech at the reception or rehearsal dinner, now is the time to finalize and practice! Just like with your vows, practice your speech out loud so that you are fully comfortable with the language.

Finalize Details with Your Groomsmen

Check-in with your groomsmen to ensure they have all the final details for the day, and to make sure they are each aware of any special duties they might have. It is also a smart idea to remind them to get their suits or tuxes pressed and to test out their final look to make sure everything is perfectly altered and ready to go.

Organize and Pack Everything You Need

There are likely quite a few personal items you’ll need to take to the wedding venue the morning of your celebration. Don’t put off organizing everything until the day of – take care of organizing and packing at least the day before. This will include your suit or tux, shoes, undergarments, cologne, and written vows – amongst other things.

Package Groomsmen Gifts

If you’ve picked out some gifts for your groomsmen to show your appreciation, you’ll want to make sure they are nicely wrapped and ready to go. Be sure to include them with your bags that you need to bring to the venue.

Make Sure Rings Are Ready

Whether you or your best man are taking care of the rings, make sure they are packed and in the right hands so that there aren’t any mishaps at the ceremony!

Sleep

It might seem obvious, but it is easy to forget to get enough sleep amidst all the excitement leading up to your wedding. Fight the urge to party too hard, and make sure you are getting a healthy amount of sleep each night.
